Personality & Traits
| Personality Overview | Quiet, hardworking, Caitlin is quite content working alone with ideally some music for company. That said, family is her world and she is close to all of her brothers, their wives and nieces and nephews. Yet her best friend remains her grandfather who remains her confidant and biggest supporter. Is relaxed and easy to talk to, but is herself quite a private person. |
|
| Ambitions | Finish exploring the galaxy. | |
| Strengths & Weaknesses | Calm, methodical and able to view a situation in terms of the ‘bigger picture’ undoubtedly serve her well in her career and life in general. It takes a lot to phase her or knock her off of her stride. Some would say her stubborn determination- particularly in her younger days - was both a blessing and a curse, at times making her take unnecessary risks and push too far. Yet it has also let her overcome challenges in her life as she refused to give up. Her preference for working alone can make her somewhat isolated, but when she makes an effort she does find it easy to make friends. Observant, she makes it a point to know what is happening aboard so she can get ahead of potential problems. |
|
| Hobbies & Interests | Enjoys exploring outside, going on long walks on her own with just some music for company. While she will work out at a gym she much prefers fresh air and being surrounded by nature. Has a great singing voice but it is rarely heard outside of the shower - and one year at the Academy talent show after she lost a bet. Her grandfather introduced her to classic detective novels and she is currently working her way through the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. She can speak Gaelic fluently, although unless at home rarely encounters anyone else who can. |
Medical History
| Past Injuries | Spent almost a year on medical leave recovering from multiple injuries following a shuttle crash, requiring months of rehabilitation. Has some small scarring on her right thigh and lower back but those are hidden beneath her uniform. In childhood she suffered a broken arm and concussions on multiple occasions, usually from trying to keep up or outdo her brothers. |

| Personal History | The youngest child of Ewan and Isla MacRae, Caitlyn's was born and raised within the family estate on the Isle of Harris. Steeped in history and tradition, the wilderness created a backdrop which could seem both magical and cruel in equal measure. For the youngest member of the MacRae clan it was a place of adventure which fuelled her imagination and instilled a sense of determination and independence which suited her fiery red hair. In her brothers, she had the fiercest of protectors although she was rarely in need of their help - growing up in a bustling and boisterous household, she had to quickly learn how to stand up for herself and was not afraid to stand her ground or protect her friends. From the age of four she was determined to do anything her brothers wanted to do, which did not always end well for her but never seemed to make a dent in her confidence. Yet her favourite thing was the times spent with her grandfather. Together they were partners in crime, two peas in a pod and he instilled in his granddaughter a love of the stars. On clear nights they would often camp out to find a spot with the best views and he would tell her about the constellations and tell grand tales from myth and legend. It was perhaps those childhood tales which made her pause and consider where she would go once she graduated high school. There was no option for studying on the island, and as she considered options another one kept coming to the top of her list. Starfleet. Already her eldest brother had gone through the academy, and was no stationed aboard a starship as a science officer. Her other brothers had gone to different universities on the mainland, returning home every weekend and every other chance they could. But she wanted to embrace that sense of adventure and be out there, amongst the stars. With that, her decision was made and she became the second MacRae sibling to be accepted. Even with her brothers warnings and advice ringing in her ears, she was not quite prepared for the first few weeks of cadet life. Yet she eventually found herself a small group of friends and together they supported one another through the many ups and downs of academy life, She remains close to many of them, although several of the group perished in the battle of Wolf 359. Upon graduating the Academy, her first assignment was to the USS Melbourne within the Operations division. She found that her many years of dealing with brothers constantly at war over each other's things, she had a somewhat natural affinity for balancing the competing demands from the various departments for valuable ship's resources. Not was she overly intimidated by those shouting the loudest. She was settled, with good friendships amongst her fellow lower deckers, and her hard work was eventually rewarded with a promotion. This, however, meant reassignment and another fresh start with new people and an entirely new class of ship with its own quirks to learn and adapt to. Never one to let a challenge faze her, she approached it head on, spending her first few weeks aboard learning everything there was to know about the Constellation class vessel. It was there that she met Ryan Davis, a security officer aboard. Almost immediately they became inseparable, spending all off duty time together and making plans for the future. Those plans were cut short when, in late 2364, the shuttlecraft they were travelling in suffered a catastrophic malfunction - the vessel crashed killing three of those aboard and leaving Caitlyn fighting for her life. Help eventually arrived, with a decision made to transfer her to Starfleet Medical for further treatment and rehabilitation. Caitlyn found herself back in her family home, having to rebuild mentally and physically before she could have any hope of returning back to Starfleet. It was a slow and painstaking process, yet one she overcame with her typical stubborn determination. In 2366, she was given clearance and returned to the USS Constance; however, she found it difficult to settle back into life aboard and requested a transfer. Her request was granted, and she was given an assignment to support Admiral Schofield at Starfleet Headquarters. Just four weeks later, the Constance would be amongst the many ships destroyed at the battle of Wolf 359. As part of Admiral Schofield's staff, Caitlyn assisted with the restructure and rebuilding of the fleet in the wake of such devastating losses. While serving at headquarters was perhaps a dream of many, she was more than ready to return to the stars when the offer of a transfer came through. |
