Check up

Mission: A Silence of Friends
Location: Sick Bay

It was Deagan's turn to be examined and as the nurse pointed to the now open bio-bed he hopped up. He hoped these exams turned out to be nothing but he understood the need to cautious; 'Better Safe Than Sorry' as the old adage went. "Anything pop up yet Doctor?"

Patrick glanced up from his medical tricorder, his expression calm but focused as he reviewed the preliminary scan results. He tapped a few buttons, fine-tuning the readings before responding.

"Nothing alarming so far," he said, offering a reassuring nod. "Vitals are stable, no signs of infection or abnormalities. But let's finish the full scan before we celebrate, yeah?"

He gestured for Deagan to stay still as the biobed's scanners continued their sweep. "How are you feeling? Any lingering symptoms?"

Daegan shrugged, "Symptoms? Nahh, I feel fine. My hand got a tingly after I first test the force field I was being held in while down on the surface, but that's not unheard of and was back to normal quickly enough."

Patrick's brow furrowed slightly at the mention of the force field, and he adjusted the tricorder’s settings to run a deeper scan. “A tingling sensation, even briefly, could indicate minor neural disruption,” he mused, his tone thoughtful but not overly concerned. “It’s good that it passed quickly, but let’s make sure there’s no residual effect.”

He watched the updated readings populate on the screen and nodded to himself. “So far, I’m not seeing anything abnormal, but I’ll run a targeted neural conductivity test just to be thorough.” He glanced up at Deagan with a small smirk. “Better safe than sorry, right?”

Daegan cocked his head slightly. "Works for me." As he sat there he continued, "So what do you think of this whole thing?"

Patrick glanced at Daegan as he adjusted the medical scanner, considering the question. "You mean the mission? The force field? Or the fact that we're sitting here making sure you don’t have some weird aftereffects from alien tech?" he asked with a wry grin.

He let the scanner run its course before continuing. "If you’re talking about the whole situation down there… I think it’s a reminder that we never really know what we’re walking into, no matter how prepared we think we are." His tone was thoughtful, but not overly grim. "Technology like that—restraints that might have subtle neurological effects—it makes you wonder what else they had up their sleeve."

The scanner beeped, and he glanced down at the results. "Looks like your nervous system is functioning normally—no lingering effects. You got lucky." He set the tricorder aside and leaned against the nearby console. "But yeah, if I had to sum it up? I’d say this whole thing just reinforces that we have to stay sharp. Situations can change in an instant." He shot Daegan a knowing look. "Not that I need to remind you of that."

"That is very true...checking out the city in moment then the next finding yourself in a different location behind a containment field does tend to confirm what you were saying. The transport seemed almost instantaneous as well. Nothing like our transporters."

Patrick nodded thoughtfully as he listened, his fingers idly adjusting the tricorder as he double-checked the results. “Instantaneous transport… That’s concerning,” he admitted. “Especially if it wasn’t something you saw coming. That kind of technology—near-instant relocation without warning—could be a real tactical advantage… or a nightmare, depending on who’s using it.”

He glanced back at the scanner results, his brows knitting together slightly. “So far, I’m still not seeing anything unusual—no trace of whatever’s been affecting the others.” He exhaled slowly, clearly wanting to find something that might connect the dots. “You’re in the clear, at least for now. But I’m going to flag your scan with the others and keep an eye out for any patterns.”

Leaning back against the console, he crossed his arms. “You said the transport didn’t feel like our systems. Did it have any side effects? Disorientation? Fatigue? Or just the usual ‘suddenly, I was somewhere else’ feeling?”

Daegan thought for a moment recalling the moment, "There was definitely a WTF moment and a bit of disorientation, but I couldn't say if that was caused by the transport itself or the realization I was a prisoner."

Patrick chuckled softly at Deagan’s wording but nodded in understanding. “Yeah, I can’t exactly scan for ‘WTF moments,’ but disorientation could be worth noting.” He made a quick note in his medical log before setting the tricorder down.

“If it was the transport itself, we might expect some lingering neural or vestibular irregularities—balance issues, nausea, maybe even temporary memory gaps. But from what I can see, your readings are solid. If anything, I’d say the shock of the situation was the bigger factor.” He tapped the console absently, thinking.

“I’ll keep comparing your scan to the others, but if you start feeling anything—headaches, dizziness, anything off—let me know. Right now, though, I’d say you’re good to go.” He offered a reassuring nod before adding with a smirk, “Though I’d recommend avoiding any more spontaneous relocations into containment fields.”

He hopped off the bio-bed with a grin. "No plans for that anytime soon you can be sure of that, but I will definitely keep you in the loop if anything changes...unless the containment field blocks comms. Thanks Doc."

Patrick chuckled, shaking his head. “Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that. If it does, I’ll add ‘figure out how to break through alien force fields’ to my growing list of medical responsibilities.”

He gave Deagan a nod, his smirk softening into something more genuine. “Stay sharp out there. And if anything feels even a little off, don’t brush it aside—come see me.”

With that, he picked up his tricorder again, already pulling up the next set of scans to analyze. “Now get out of here before I find an excuse to run more tests,” he added with a teasing grin.
