1,318 words; about a 7 minute read

Mission: A Silence of Friends
Location: Guest Quarters, Star Base 310
Timeline: MD002 - 1900

Daegan had left the pair to continue the preparations' he just hoped there wasn't any further outbursts. After leaving them, he grabbed a bag from his quarters and headed out towards the umbilical and the starbase. He could have just crashed on the ship but he opted for guest quarters off the park area right across from the promenade.

Tossing his bag on the bed he look himself over in the mirror and had a bit off a shadow going but he decided to leave and be a little roguish while on his leave. Opening his bag he pull out his PADD, seeing that he had gotten a message. Read the message: "I will be getting my spots back. Dinner tonight?"

Smirking he sent his reply, "Absolutely. 1900? I will find a place, meet me at my guest quarters." He was about to toss the padd on the bed but stopped and sent a follow-up, "Afterwards lets hit a club or two. Party Time!"

"I'll find something sparkly," Jules sent back. "Can't wait."

Having sent his message Daegan hit the promenade to see what was available. It was still early so the "clubs" in the area weren't even open yet so he didn't even bother with that but he did check out a few restaurants to see what was offered and several shots for an outfit for the night out on the town. After finding what he liked and getting completely over charged by the shopkeeper he headed back to his room.

On the way back he stopped at the park and watched a group of young kids playing only to get hits in the back by something. Turning he picked up the soccer ball that had hit him in the back and looking across the green there was a girl covering her face in embarrassment and another jogging up. "Sorry sir..."

"No problem."

Tossing her the ball he gave a wave to her friend across the way as he then acting like his should was injured. He saw her jaw drop in surprise and heard her friend laugh. Gesturing that he was fine he headed back into the residential area to relax and get ready.

Placing his purchases on the couch he started moving off towards the back pulling off his shirt he tossed it on his bed and started the shower. Having opted for the water shower he stripped down and closed the partition behind him. Putting his head into the stream of water as the steam filled the stall and the heat relaxed his muscles. Taking his time he enjoyed the heat and let the water beat against him, but eventually he finished and turned off the water. After drying he wrapped a towel around himself he padded into his room using another towel to dry his hair.

Watching Daegan dry himself she was almost distracted by his rounded shoulders, deep chest, and flat abs, but she wasn't here for that this time. No matter how much she may have wanted to. "So who the hell is this 'Jules' person?"

The voice stopped him cold but wasn't completely surprised by her sudden appearance. Taking the towel from his head he draped it over his shoulders looking at her with his head slightly cocked to the side. "You know you really gotta stop with the B&E (Breaking and Entering)."

"Don't change the subject...," her anger starting to show, "...who is she?"

Daegan huffed. "She is a good friend from the Academy. We hadn't seen each other since we graduated and went to our assignments."

"A Friend? I wonder how many people have heard THAT before?"

It was Daegan's turn to be upset but he managed to check himself before acting in a way he would regret. "Jaclyn...I have already told you," his hands gesturing back and forth between then, "this can't happen. One, I'm and officer and you enlisted, second, you are under my direct command. Both of us could get into a whole lot of trouble. Are you gonna quit Starfleet, No...and neither am I."

Her anger was obvious as were the tears welling up. He took a seat opposite. "When we met in San Francisco, which was a wonderfully fabulous day, we didn't know, and we never asked; but when we realized what the situation was it should have stopped. I should have..." As spoke the chime to his room rang and his head dropped.

Jules loved the night life. Always had. As an agent, she learned a great many things in bars, sad stories mumbled over a drink or into a willing ear. As herself, she nearly always had a good time; couple that with catching up with Daegan, someone she had known and liked back at the Academy, she was looking forward to the evening. Dressed in tight black pants and a matching camisole with high-heeled knee-high black boots and a short, glittery jacket done in a black and cobalt blue pattern, she waited for Daegan to answer the door.

His head still hanging there he heard the 'It's her isn't?' before he got up to to answer the door. Still in his towel and with a hand against the doorframe he opened the door. With a sweeping gesture he waved Jules in. "Come on in. Join the show."

"Show," Jules asked, chuckling, "and you in your towel ..." Whatever she would have said dropped away as you saw Jaclyn sitting on his bed with tears in her eyes. "We meet again, Petty Officer," Jules said as she pulled off her jacket, revealing a form-fitting outfit and her spots (which had been the point after all, to show them off), and dropped into the nearest chair. "Daegan, why don't you take a moment to put on some clothes, huh?"

"Yeah." Grabbing his newly acquired finery and headed in the bathroom closing the door behind him.

Jaclyn stood, watching him go, blinking away the tears. There was no way she was going to give her the satisfaction. Thinking to herself; ~This isn't over not by a long shot. If he wants to worry about appearances....I'll give him something to worry about.~ Turning she made for the door, not even acknowledging the 'friend' standing there.

"Don't let yourself get distracted," Jules said softly, pity hidden in the depths of her eyes, "so close to a mission. Focus on what you can control, eh?"

Replying curtly without stopping, "Oh I intend to."

Not long after Daegan emerged wearing a form fitting dark blue oxford with his sleeves rolled, khaki trousers and black dress shoes. He had trimmed but left the stubble in place. Glancing about he saw that Jaclyn had left. He was saddened and relieved at the same time. He looked to Jules, with her freshly rejuvenated spots, "Well there's no blood or drag marks and your clothes are still intact, so I take it she left?"

"Yes, she did," Jules said as she picked up her jacket and shrugged it on. "That one's going to be trouble, you know that, don't you?"

"Going to be? You mean is." Opening the door for her, "After you...?

Hips swaying slightly, Jules did a runway model's walk, pirouetted and stopped, waiting for him to leave his quarters and join her in the corridor. Out of long habit, and without making a show of it, she quickly checked the corridor in both directions. If she had aroused the petty (emphasis on the 'petty') officer's ire, then it would be best for her to be a bit more careful.

As she walked passed he grinned, "Nice spots."

"Let's eat," she said, hooking her arms through his, "I'm starved."
